First Hellfire Citadel raid

HFC

Some friends in the guild Fluffy Kittens of Doom on Stormscale EU raid two days per week and they usually got spots for friends who want to join. I’ve raided with them a few times now but this was my first time in Hellfire Citadel on normal difficulty, only done Looking For Raid previously.

As usual I was on my resto shaman which is my favorite character to raid with in this expansion. I didn’t read up on any of the bosses but they explained the tactics to me and the bosses weren’t very different from what they in LFR. The first four bosses went down very easily, most on first try. Kilrogg Deadeye took us a while longer to learn but we got him down and moved on to Gorefiend who we one-shotted.

I got 5 upgrades! It was a good and fun raid and I might continue to join them for a raid every now and then as long as it’s very casual.

Here’s the log from the raid on Warcraft Logs.

A busy month of WoD and IRL

SyrcoVrycorWoW10th

November was a busy month with BlizzCon, the launch of Warlords of Draenor, my 25th birthday and a visit from Sweden. At first we spend a lot of time fixing the apartment we have lived in for four months now. There were still some things to do and stuff to buy, but it’s about finished now after a few trips to IKEA and some other stores. We had to prepare for both the expansion launch and my birthday including two birthday parties so the fridge and storage were filled with all kinds of goodies.

Our plan was to play as much as we could that week and weekend in between work and birthday parties, but it didn’t work out that well because of the latency and queue problems on our realm. So it took much longer than we thought to level up and the first levels took the longest. We decided to just wait for it all to get better and spent more time doing other things like do the first quests on our alts to get them to the garrison, complete missions, level professions and sell stuff at the auction house. My druid is a scribe and got all the new glyphs pretty quick so I sold all of them and earned a good amount of gold the first week.

We had a visitor from Sweden the weekend after so we spent the whole weekend showing her the city, visiting family and eating amazing food. Went to Pepperkakebyen which is the largest gingerbread town in the world, enjoyed the view of the city from Fløyen and ate Norwegian Christmas dinner.

It didn’t take long to hit level 100 when we finally had time to play. Now we’re trying to gear up for raids by doing heroic dungeons and we might try out some challenge modes soon. I’m also planning to level up my shaman very soon, she’s already level 92 but she’s stuck in her garrison doing missions and profession stuff. I think and hope we will have more time to play in the future, but there is a lot to do this month as well with Christmas coming up soon. We’re not going anywhere but we have some presents to buy, then there is work, family visits and meetings with friends.

How has your first month of Warlords of Draenor been?

Warlords of Draenor FAQ

I decided to make a FAQ for Warlords of Draenor because I’ve had a few questions about Draenor and how stuff works and I thought some of you might find it useful.

How do I get to Draenor?

If you’ve upgraded your account to Warlords of Draenor, a quest will pop up in your quest log, directing you to the Blasted Lands. You will receive this quest no matter where you are in the world. Speak to Khadgar outside the Dark Portal in Blasted Lands.

When will I be able to fly in Draenor?

You will be able to fly in Draenor in a future patch. But you have to complete the achievement Draenor Pathfinder first to unlock the flying skill.

What is Ashran?

Ashran is a new world PvP zone in eastern Draenor. It has bases, vehicles and quests. The name also refers to the greater Ashran zone with the Alliance and Horde Capitals, which are set outside of the PvP zone itself. You will be invited to join the battle when you enter the zone or placed in a queue to join if the zone is already at the cap for your faction. You can fly to Ashran from your garrison.

Read more about Ashran here

What are the new Draenor capitals called and how do I get there?

The new capitals are in Ashran, a zone located east in Draenor. Stormshield is the Alliance capital and Warspear is the Horde capital. You can fly there from your garrison in Frostfire Ridge after building your garrison. There are portals to the different cities in Azeroth in Stormshield/Warspear. I recommend setting Hearthstone in Warspear/Stormshield as you can use your Garrison Hearthstone to get to your garrison or other parts of Draenor. You can also fly from Stormshield/Warspear to other parts of Draenor.

Is there a portal to Draenor from Orgrimmar/Stormwind?

Yes, there is a portal from Orgrimmar to Frostfire Ridge and from Stormwind to Shadowmoon Valley. You can find the portal by the Cataclysm portals (to Uldum etc)

What are garrisons?

Garrisons are a new major feature in Warlords of Draenor. You can construct buildings to boost your professions or craft items without a profession, recruit followers and send them on missions for rewards.

Read more about garrisons here

What is required to queue for a Warlords of Draenor heroic dungeon?

You need a Silver Proving Grounds medal to your role to queue using the Looking For Group tool and 610 item level.

How do I get to Proving Grounds in Draenor?

At level 100, you can pick up the quest Proving Grounds (Alliance) / Proving Grounds (Horde) in your Garrison. Speak to Warmaster Zog (Horde) and Lieutenant Thorn (Alliance) to queue for Proving Grounds.

How do I gear up in Draenor?

PvP:

The easiest way to get PvP gear is to battle in Ashran. You get honor points from winning events and you also have a chance to get a box which contains a piece of PvP gear. There are two weekly quests in Ashran and one of them will reward you with a box that contains a piece of epic PvP gear. The other quests rewards you with conquest points. One quest can be completed several times so you can easily get conquest cap in Ashran. Killing mobs in Ashran will give you artifact fragments which you can trade for honor points in the base. Buy PvP gear for honor and conquest points at the vendor in Warspear (outside the bank) or in the Ashran base. You can also do arena or rated battlegrounds to get conquest points. A quest will pop up when you enter a rated battleground and when you have won 3 rated battlegrounds, it will reward you with a box that contains a piece of epic PvP gear.

PvE:

How does the free level 90 character boost work?

A free character boost is included when you buy the Warlords of Draenor expansion. You can boost one character on your account to level 90.

If the character is at least level 60 before the boost, their primary professions and first aid will be leveled up to 600. If the character is at least level 60 and doesn’t have any primary professions, they’ll automatically be given two primary professions based on your class. Cloth armor classes will get enchanting and tailoring, leather/mail classes will get leatherworking and skinning, plate armor classes will get blacksmithing and mining.

Read more about 90 boost here and here

What will my boosted 90 character get?

The boosted character will receive a set of gear with 483 item level, bags and some gold to get started. Any gear the character already had will be mailed to them. After completing the introductory questline, your character will receive all riding skills up to Artisan (280% flying speed) and all regional riding skills up to Pandaria (Cold Weather Flying, Flight Master’s License etc)

How will I know how to play the level 90 character?

You will start off with the most essential skills for your class and spec and you will unlock more skills as you progress through the introductory questline.

What kinds of bonuses will I earn from level 90 to 100?

You will get perks which are passive abilities improving existing abilities. Each spec has access to 4 perks granted upon reaching levels 92, 94, 96 and 98. These perks don’t have a fixed level at which they are acquired, instead a perk will be randomly selected from those not yet known.

Read more about perks here

Why aren’t I getting event complete or boss kill for my quest in Ashran?

The quest can be bugged sometimes. Walk out or Ashran and back in when the timer pops up. You don’t have to leave the raid or abandon the quest. This might help.

Where is the vendor who sells the crafted item upgrade recipe? Ore Trader, Herb Trader, Fur Trader, Leather Trader.

There are a total of 5 different kinds of NPCs who can visit your garrison every day. You’ll find them in your Town Hall. It’s random which NPC you get. You can search for the vendor in Looking For Group and visit another player who has that trader.

How can I tweet from in-game?

First you need to open the Game Menu in-game, then go to Interface and Social, then connect your Twitter account and enable Twitter Functionality. Then you can type /share in the chat and a window will pop up in-game where you can write your message, add your latest achievement or screenshot. You can also take a screenshot and then click the icon beside it in the chat to bring up the tweet window.

Let me know if there is anything else you think I should add or if anything is incorrect. Will also add more as I progress through Draenor.

First days in Draenor

WoD1

The launch of Warlords of Draenor clearly didn’t go as expected for Blizzard. It wasn’t as I expected either. I knew it would be latency and that the servers might crash but I had no idea it would be this bad. I was in Blasted Lands a few hours before midnight and half of Kazzak were already there, so it took several minutes to mount up and even longer to kill a mob. Some poor players ran around trying to finish their Blasted Lands quest but it was impossible.

Kazzak

We all bunched up at the Dark Portal, ready to pick up the quest and go through. But the server went down right before midnight because there were too many players in Blasted Lands. It took a while to get back in the game cause of the queue, and when I finally got past the queue Blasted Lands was still down, so you would get stuck on loading screen for 5 minutes or longer when trying to log in before you finally got thrown back to character list.

WoWScrnShot_111214_224727

I kept trying to log on different characters but all of my characters were either in Blasted Lands, Orgrimmar or Shrine of Two Moons. I got instantly teleported to Shrine of Two Moons when I finally got on my character which was in Blasted Lands. This was before Khadgar casted Mirror Image to place himself in the major cities, so I had to get back to Blasted Lands to speak to him. I think I went back twice or three times and got teleported to Shrine again every time. So we decided to do a few dungeons just to get started but it wasn’t exactly very fun to just do the same dungeon over and over again.

WoWScrnShot_111314_030931

I think it was around 2:30 am when I finally got to Draenor and we finally got to start on the quests in Tanaan Jungle. Questing went fine without any lag or disconnects because most people were in Frostfire Ridge at that time.

WoWScrnShot_111314_043346

Everything worked fine until we got to Frostfire, then we understood what everyone were complaining about. Because there were so much people there, at every quest giver and at every quest spot. It took a good while before we got started on our quests and got to build our Garrison. But it got even worse as we progressed and got to the next quest hub. Some quests were impossible to finish because there were no mobs around, it seemed like it took several minutes for them to spawn and when they finally spawned it lagged so much that you couldn’t tag it and before you knew it had already died. Another quest took very long to finish because you couldn’t see further than 5 feet around where you were standing and if you moved too fast you would just run past the mobs because they didn’t get time to phase in because of the lag, so you had to move one step at a time and wait to see if there were any mobs. So it was like we were blind searching for stealthed mobs we only could see if we stood right on top of them. So you can only imagine how long it took for us to finish.

WoWScrnShot_111314_045909

After a while we decided to skip these quests so we went exploring in stead and found a few extra quests on the way which we managed to complete. Garrisons worked at the time so we spent some time there completing missions. Warlords of Draenor had been out for 8 hours when we decided we needed some sleep. We were only level 91 but we couldn’t get further because we couldn’t complete the quests and barely kill a mob.

WoWScrnShot_111314_165051

But it wasn’t much better when we woke up 7 hours later. I tried to get into my Garrison by using the Garrison Hearthstone but got stuck on loading screen for some time before I got disconnected. So I logged back on expecting to find myself where I were when I started casting my Garrison Hearthstone. But I wasn’t there, nor in the Garrison or Shrine of Two Moons. I was in Shadowmoon Valley, falling from the sky before I hit the ground and died. So I ressed there and had a long, nice walk back to Frostfire, picked up a few flight paths on the way and took some screenshots of the beautiful world.

Since then the queues have been really high and I think the longest I’ve been in queue was 7 1/2 hours. But I’ve read about all the updates and improvements they are doing to make it work better so I think it will only get better from now on. This post has been very useful.

WoWScrnShot_111614_015043

So yesterday I finally got to play some, after several hours in queue of course. Even the garrison worked so I spent a lot of time there and at the auction house in Warspear in Ashran. I learned to craft some new glyphs which sold good and I finally got to level 92. There weren’t any latency last night so hopefully everything will go a bit smoother and faster from now on and I won’t spent another three days on the same level.
