Balance druid spec – Beta Build 12984

new talent tree is out with the new build, and I made a spec after my experiences and what seems logical to take. This is a PvE raiding spec, so I didn’t pick any PvP talents or other solo talents.

I’ll explain some of the talents I picked which I didn’t have in my last spec. I have experienced a lot of mana issues in dungeons and while soloing, I go oom all the time and need many breaks to drink, even when I use my Innervate. It’s not as powerful as it was before and we don’t get so much mana back like we did before, not used to it yet, but it’s very annoying.

So that’s why I picked Moonglow to try it out and see if it helps on the mana issues, and I also picked Dreamstate which now gives you extra mana when you use innervate on yourself.

I didn’t pick Owlkin Frenzy cause if it is the same as it is on live, it doesn’t proc on many boss fights, and as I said this is a PvE raiding spec, not a solo spec. For the same reason I didn’t pick Overgrowth, Solar Beam or Fungal Growth. They might be useful in PvE in some situations, but not on bosses.

Feral: I wasn’t sure if I should take Furor or not. 15% more mana is a lot, but I chosed not to take it at the moment because I wanted to check if it was enough with Moonglow and Dreamstate.
Resto: You want Heard of the Wild because intellect gives you spellpower and same does Master Shapeshifter. I wasn’t sure about Blessing of the Grove because it’s only 6% on the direct damage of your Moonfire, but I picked it cause it’s still a tiny small amount of extra damage.

Will test this spec on the beta later when I have time for it and return to say how it went.

No oomkins in Cataclysm, or?

I know it’s still beta and nothing is final yet. Blizzard said something about us have to worry about our mana and how we spend it. Mana wasn’t a problem in Wrath of the Lich King so we never needed the mana regen talents like Intensity, Moonglow and Dreamstate. We regen so much from our crits cause we get back more than we use, and from our spirit but that will change in Cataclysm since spirit will only be for healers and on healing gear which we won’ t take.

We still get mana regen when critting on the beta but Improved Moonkin Form is removed from talents. Lunar Justice got removed from the talents but it’s still in the game and procs whenever you kill something and restores 2%(?) of your total mana, think I got around 200 mana back. Euphoria restores 12% of your total mana when you gain Solar or Lunar eclipse. Lunar Shower reduces the mana cost of Moonfire by 30%.

I don’t think the mana regen will be like it is on the beta now, or on live servers, cause if they want us to worry about our mana they have to nerf our Improved Moonkin Form cause that’s where we get most of our mana from. I remember it wasn’t as overpowered as it is now in Naxxramas, I think it was first around Ulduar times they buffed it. Or maybe it was only the gear. Nowdays in Icecrown I only go out of mana if I Hurricane over and over again on trash, never on bosses, not even if I combat ress or give my Innervate to another player, I will still end the fight with almost full mana pool.

Cataclysm: New moonkin abilities and talents

I’ve read a lot about the moonkin changes in Cataclysm and tested some of them on the beta. I think it looks like we get some really fun new abilities and I’m also very happy with the Eclipse changes, it just takes a while to get used to it. I guess you’ve all read about the changes on another website, but here they are anyway.

New moonkin abilities

Wild Mushroom lvl 85:

Grow a magical Mushroom with 5 Health at the target location. After 4 sec, the Mushroom will become invisible. When detonated by the Druid or by damage by enemies, the Mushroom will explode dealing 269.88 to 304.33 damage to all nearby enemies within 10 yards. Only 5 Mushrooms can be placed at one time. No cooldown. 40 yd range. Instant cast. Use Wild Mushroom – Detonate to detonate all Mushrooms.

11% of base mana, 40 yd range, 0.5 sec cast

Starsurge lvl 25:

You fuse the power of the moon and sun, launching a devestating blast of energy at the target. Causes 1272.16 to 1756.79 Spellstorm damage to the target and knocking them down.

11% of base mana, 30 yd range, 2 sec cast, 15 sec cooldown

New talents

Fungal Growth:

When your Treants die or your Wild Mushrooms are triggered, you spawn a Fungal Growth at its wake covering the area within 8 yards, slowing all enemy targets by 35%. Lasts 10 sec.


When you critically hit with Wrath, Starfire or Starsurge, you instantly gain an additional 2 Lunar or 4 Solar Energy. When you reach a Solar or Lunar eclipse, you instantly are restored 6% of your total mana.

Solar Beam:

You summon a beam of solar light over the enemy target’s location, interupting the enemy target and silencing all enemy targets under the beam within 10 yards while it is active. Solar Beam lasts for 10 sec.
