Blizzard created an island and an NPC to honor Robin Williams who passed away in August 2014. The NPC, Robin, can be found on an island off the coast of Nagrand and Talador in Draenor.
He can be summoned by clicking the Ever-Burning Lamp and he will yell “PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWERS! Itty bitty living space” which is a reference to Robin Williams’ role as Genie in Disney’s Aladdin. Other references can be found around the island.
Like the large egg with a chair and some machinery inside which is a reference to his role as Mork the alien who comes to Earth in an egg-like spaceship in the TV series Mork & Mindy.
Some toys can be found behind a tree, which I read is a reference to the movie Toys.
A murloc riding an elekk can be found higher up on the island.
Together with a cage and bones. I don’t know what these items are references to, maybe Jumanji and Night at the Museum?
Have you visited Robin on his island?
The Black Bear camp is located in a valley north-west in Dun Morogh. A dwarven campsite has been attacked by a group of black bears.
The dwarves, Jermaine Buckey and Anton Buckey, have been chased up a tree. One of the young black bears is half way up the tree.
If you fly close to the dwarves, you can hear their conversation.
Jermaine Buckey says: I told ye not tae leave the boar ribs out! Why couldna yae had a proper stomach and eaten yer dinner like the rest o’ us Buckeys?
Anton Buckey says: And who forgot tae grab the ale on the way up? Not me! Hahahaha!
Anton Buckey says: If ye climb up another notch, I’ll share me brew with ye!
Jermaine Buckey says: Stop drinking the last o’ our ale and help me off this blasted branch!
Anton Buckey says: Nae, I’m enjoying me fine some Ironforge mead. Might be the last drink we have for a while yet.
Anton Buckey says: If ue want me advice, don’t go strugglin’ tae much. Ye’ll just encourage them.
Jermaine Buckey says: Come any closer ya wee bear and I’ll punch ya in the face!
I’ve no idea when I first discovered this place or how old it is. I think I read about it on a forum and then went to check it out. This is one of those small but still amazing things Blizzard put into the game to amuse us. It’s so fun to explore the world and find hidden things like this, it’s what’s gives this game charm. I hope they’ll continue to put secrets like this into the game forever. Can’t wait to explore Draenor in Warlords of Draenor!
There are many easter eggs in World of Warcraft. Some are just small, fun things, hidden messages or jokes we usually don’t notice cause we’re too busy with something else. You might already have heard of some of them cause they aren’t exactly new, but it’s still fun to visit these places and have a look. Here are some of my favorite easter eggs.
The Nova Shrine is a small blue shrine on a floating rock in Netherstorm.
It flashes the letters N O V A and is a memorial to Starcraft: Ghost.
Some say you under certain conditions can see Nova Terra
kneeling next to it, but I’ve never seen her. If you listen closely you can also hear Starcraft music playing.
Critter war in Mulgore
North in Mulgore on the border to Stonetalon Mountains the critters are at war with each other. They carry weapons and armor. I don’t know what this is a reference to, but people have said different things like Watership Down, Redwall and Conker’s Bad Fur Day.
LOST in Sholazar Basin
On a small island in a lake in Sholazar Basin is a bunker in the ground. It has a plaque with the numbers 5 9 16 17 24 43, This is a reference to the numbers “4 8 15 16 23 42” from LOST.
Eye of Arthas
The Eye of Arthas in Icecrown is a reference to the Eye of Sauron in Lord of the Rings.
Statue of Liberty
The movie Planet of the Apes.
Goblin Shredder display
There is a picture of Sarah Kerrigan from Starcraft on the screen in goblin shredders.
The terminator hand can be found several places in WoW, one of them is in Utgarde Pinnacle in Howling Fjord. This is of course a reference to the Terminator movies.
