1. Write better posts: I’m always trying to write good and interesting posts.

2. Write more often: I would like to write 2-3 posts per week but sometimes I don’t know what to write about and other times real life is very busy.

3. Comment on other blogs: I haven’t been very good at this lately, but I want to become better at it for next year.

4. Interact more with other bloggers and my followers on Twitter: I used to be very good at this but I can improve. I want to tweet more, retweet and share posts, Follow Friday every Friday etc.

5. Optimize my blog layout and design: I’m actually very happy with my current design but I would like to get a new similar background with the updated character models or just a plain one without any characters. It’s hard to pick a theme to use because I’m never 100% satisfied with it and I can’t change that much when I’m using wordpress.com without the custom design. But I’ve used this theme for a while now and I think it looks pretty good.

What are your new years blogging resolutions?

My Blog as a Mix Tape

I first discovered this link-up on Nerdjoy but it was started by Joie Fatale of Confessions of a Book Pimp.

mixtape copy

What would your blog sound like if it was a Mix Tape? Five songs on side A, and Five on B?
Create a playlist, of 10 songs that describe your blog! Any genre! Any song!
Tweet your link with the hashtag: #MyBlogMixTape! And please, please, please! Leave me a comment with the link to your post! I want to hear all the music!!!

I love music, so this topic is perfect for me! But it’s not easy to pick 10 songs to describe my blog. My blog is first and foremost a World of Warcraft blog. But I’ve also written more personal posts and I would like to continue to write not only about World of Warcraft but about other games, other interests and maybe some personal stuff every now and then. I’ve been working on this playlist for some weeks now, not all the time of course but I’ve been listening to different music, reading lyrics and thinking.

The lyrics are very important to me, I always read through them when I hear a new song I like so I can learn what it’s about and understand it. I often find my own meaning with it because it reminds me of something. The songs I’ve chosen for my playlists are all songs I like a lot from my favorite band Machinae Supremacy, a song from Donkeyboy, my favorite song by Lindsey Stirling, one song by Porcupine Tree and the music from the faerie dragon event in the Whispering Forest.

I’ve added parts of the lyrics that appeal to me.

Donkeyboy – Crazy Something Normal

There’s a ripped off cord
To my TV screen
Because I will never
be afraid to dream

I’m a dreamer, sometimes I have to remind myself to live in the real world and not only in my dreams,

Machinae Supremacy – Republic of Gamers

We are all equals here
and we fight for dominion tonight
We don’t ask color, race or creed,
dedicated, free-for-all

Passed through my line of sight
You are the one that caught my eye
I’m coming for you right now
Yeah you can try to hide
How many levels can you up
before I track you down and make you die?

The first part reminds me of WoW and how you can be anyone you want, you don’t have to tell anyone who you are in real life. The second part makes me think of PvP in WoW, when you’re in a battleground and see one person and you decide you’re going to go get him/her.

Lindsey Stirling – Minimal Beat

This song is an instrumental and has no lyrics. But the song and the video makes me think of dreaming and traveling, and it gives me inspiration to do what I like and what I want.

Machinae Supremacy – Rise of a Digital Nation

Though far apart, united by heart

We’re all far apart, from different countries all around the world, but internet makes us connected and united.

Machinae Supremacy – A View From The End of the World

Friend me, follow, fan and like
Say, what’s on your mind tonight?

Just as well when the real world feels so small
We are gods here, and we can reach it all
I can hear the whole world call

We excel at passing time, and we share our hearts and our minds

The Greatest Show on Earth is right here on the net
And we are a part of it

Again internet brings us together. We friend each other, follow each other, fan and like. Share our thoughts and what we do with the whole world. We’re part of the greatest show on earth.

Porcupine Tree – Time Flies

But after a while
you realize time flies.
And the best thing that you can do
is take whatever comes to you.

She said nothing ever happens
if you don’t make it happen.

Time flies, it really does. We grow older every day. If you want something, you have to make it happen. Follow your dreams.

Machinae Supremacy – Force Feedback

Take a look across this vast uncharted battlefield
You still don’t know your enemy
A bunch of pissed off freaks with infinite mad skills
And a newfound taste for blood

I don’t think you understand
These are our shores and our land
You are a stranger here
And we won’t be idle as you interfere

This song also makes me think of WoW and a new expansion where we don’t know who the final boss will be. Or a battleground where the opposing team don’t know their enemy which is us, “a bunch of pissed off freaks with infinite mad skills and a newfound taste for blood”.

And the second part is also about an enemy who enters our territory and we want them gone.

Machinae Supremacy – Crouching Camper Hidden Sniper

Do you always play warfare just to lay around
With your ass in the grass and your chin to the ground
Again and again every round

Now your chicken shit outfit and need to survive
is just trying my patience and cramping my style
It deals a lethal blow to the thrill
playing punk-hide and seek to get kills

I’m gonna do you a favor
And not t-bag you for your behavior
But even so you and I are far from OK
Your lame bullshit slows down the game

I was all about action, I played every day
But the failed interaction with lamers dismayed
Eroded the appeal of the game

These days I play for one and one reason alone
I’m here to practice muh stabbin’ on pissants who prone
I always got the most knife kills
Check your killcam to review my skills

Are you afraid of a showdown
(Rather) shoot in the back than react face to face
It’s not our fault that you’re slow
now be a good bitch and die before you go

This song makes me think of Counter-Strike. But parts of it can also be about WoW and bad players who don’t do what they should.

Machinae Supremacy – Indiscriminate Murder is Counter-Productive

I know that I’m not meant to kill this indiscriminately,
but I get a bit bit carried away by the sounds of pain

What I may never know is the place of the maze
in which I would have erased some fucking fairies from space
I neglected to ask before I killed the last dairy farmer who knew

I wish I had waited for you
I wish I could invoke some better part of me

I know I’m supposed to be all “the one”
but I have too much fun killing everyone

I came here to play, now could you come out and stay
so I can kill and away you
to the gods you pray to and never look back.

I know that all these NPCs don’t pose a threat to me
But I gotta kill kill something right now and this’ll have to do

This is one of my favorite songs by Machinae Supremacy because it’s different and fun. It also reminds me of WoW.

Music from World of Warcraft – Song from the Faerie Dragon event in the Whispering Forest

This song has no lyrics. But it is so mysterious and beautiful. Makes me think of the event and the feeling of finding a new and secret place, the excitement of adventures in WoW.

So, what would your blog sound like if it was a mix tape? Let me know in the comments below which songs you would add or make your own playlist and post it on your blog. Remember to post a link to your post on Confessions of a Book Pimp :)

The Liebster Award

I’ve been nominated for the Liebster Award by three different people! The first one was Neri of Mama Needs Mana, second one was Amerence of AmerPriest Blog and the third one was Marathal of When 140 characters is not enough. Thank you!

I had never even heard about the Liebster Award when I was nominated. But after reading some posts about it I learned that it’s a small token of appreciation given to up and coming bloggers. It’s a great way to find new blogs and recognize blogs you think deserve a little extra attention.
It seems like almost everyone I know about have been nominated by now, so it took a while to find some people I don’t think have been nominated yet.

liebster2

General info (from Wording Well)

  • This award exists only on the internet, and is given to bloggers by other bloggers
  • It has German origins – the word “liebster” has several definitions: Dearest, darling, beloved, sweetheart
  • It follows similar principles as a chain letter, in the sense that it should be passed forward to a certain number of people
  • It can be misconstrued, depending upon your personal views, as either something wonderful (who doesn’t like awards?) or as an annoyance (a chain letter that involves work)
  • The choice lies within each of us to accept it, and continue paying it forward or to refuse to accept it, thereby stopping or interrupting the chain. However, if you stop the chain, you are only hurting yourself
  • Personal views play an important part in our choice to participate. Some people have refused to accept it and have made attempts to “break the chain”. There have been many people who have been nominated, yet refused to accept it, and now their blogs have been abandoned
  • Variations have been made over time to the “rules”
  • Marketing plays a role in accepting this award, as other bloggers are promoted
  • Other awards are a part of the whole “meme“. These include “One Lovely Blog Award”, the “Sunshine Blog Award” and the “Versatile Writer Award”

Rules

  1. Write a blog post about the Liebster Award
  2. Thank the person who nominated you and link to their blog
  3. Display the award on your blog
  4. Answer the eleven questions that the blogger who nominated you gives you
  5. Give eleven random facts about yourself
  6. Nominate eleven blogs that you think deserve the award
  7. Create eleven questions for them to answer
  8. List the rules in your post
  9. Inform the bloggers that they’ve been nominated and provide them the link to your post

Questions from Neri of Mama Needs Mana

  1. What inspired you to start blogging?
    • Other blogs I read inspired me to start blogging. I thought it would be great to have my own space to write about my thoughts on different topics and a place to share my screenshots from the Cataclysm beta which had just started when I made my blog.
  2. If you won a free ticket to Blizzcon, what panels would you be most excited about seeing?
    • I would be most excited about the art panel and the sound panel because I’m very interested in the art and how the game goes from concept art and sketches to the finished game. And the sound panel because I’ve always loved the music in Blizzard’s games and I would love to meet the composers.
  3. How do you balance time in-game with your ‘RL’ commitments?
    • I try to do everything that needs to be done in real life first and then play later when I’m finished with everything.
  4. If World of Warcraft shut down its servers tomorrow (Or you aren’t currently playing), what would you be playing instead?
    • Diablo III
  5. Are there any bloggers out there who you aspire to be like? What is it about them that you love?
    • Cymre: Has one of the greatest blogs I know about, amazing screenshots and inspiring posts. Amerence: Love the way she writes. Always fun and easy to read posts. Neri: One of my favorite blogs because she writes about gaming and other interesting topics like how it is to be a geeky parent :P
  6. Are you brave enough to show us your gaming set up?
    • Sure: Asus G74S, Razer Naga, Belkin n52te Nostromo and Logitech G35
      Gaming
  7. At what age would you let your children (Real or hypothetical) start playing video games?
    • I don’t have any children, yet. But I would definitely introduce them to video games at some point. Maybe some educational children’s games at first when they’re really young like 3-5 years old and other games when they’re a bit older.
  8. You have a weekend of interruption free gaming ahead of you. What essential supplies do you stock up on to get you through it?
    • Chocolate and ice coffee! Maybe some homemade pizza buns ready to heat up in the microwave.
  9. If you could pick any job in the gaming industry, what would it be?
    • I’ve dreamt about becoming a game designer since I was 10 years old and I haven’t given up on it yet.
  10. Have you ever done any gaming cosplay?
    • Not really. But remember that I used to find sticks in the woods and make them into swords when I was little and pretend to be Link from the Zelda games. I might dress up as a moonkin if I’m ever going to BlizzCon.
  11. What is the most ridiculous thing you’ve ever seen done in an MMO or multi-player game?

Questions from  Marathal of When 140 characters is not enough

  1. Do you have a favorite(s) blogger you particularly check to see if they have posted.
  2. Mandatory question I guess.  What made you start blogging?
    • I thought it would be great to have my own space to write about my thoughts on different topics and a place to share my screenshots from the Cataclysm beta which had just started when I made my blog.
  3. Is there any blog post you’re particularly proud of?
    • I’m proud of my post about the Whispering Forest because not many others knew about the even when I wrote that post and it has gotten a lot of hits since I posted it in July 2011.
  4. Any advice you wish you could have given yourself prior to writing a controversial blog?
    • Don’t be afraid to express yourself
  5. Pick a community manager you would love to see as an interactive NPC.
    • I’ve actually no idea as I don’t really know the community managers.
  6. Is there a class or spec that you’ve never played that you’d really like to try one day?
    • I think I’ve tried every class and spec there is, but not seriously. Right now I’m thinking about leveling my 85 mage and try frost in battlegrounds.
  7. Opinion on labels ie. Casual, Elite, Hardcore, can’t we all be called players?
    • We’re all players, but we play at different levels. I call myself a casual player because I don’t play a lot at the moment compared to what I did back when I raided 3 times per week and played every evening.
  8. What are you looking forward to the most in WoD and would you give up a raid tier for them to improve one thing and what would it be?
    • I haven’t actually read that much about Warlords of Draenor. But I’m looking forward to leveling and learning more about the story behind it all. I want them to take the time they need to make it as good as they can. Buuut, I would give up a raid tier for an updated version of the Moonkin Form.
  9. If you could have any WoW mount to ride in real life, what would that be?
    • Swift Zulian Tiger
  10. If they were a playable class, would you play a Ranger? What race?
    • I doubt it, if it’s like a hunter because I’m not a big fan of the hunter class.
  11. Cheesesteak wit or witout.
    • Witout

Questions from Amerence of AmerPriest Blog

  1. When did you start blogging, what it’s all about and why?
    • I started blogging in July 2010 because I wanted a place to write down my thoughts and share my screenshots from WoW. I also wrote a lot about moonkin back then when I raided 25 man heroic as a moonkin.
  2. Post your most favorite Screenshot of all time!
    • This one from the Whispering Forest faerie dragon event
      thewhisperingforest
  3. Favorite city in WoW you hang out to and why?
    • My hearthstone is set to Shrine of the Two Moons and I spent a lot of time in Orgrimmar when I’m at the auction house. But I think my favorite city is Dalaran because it’s smaller, has an auction house and not a lot of people. I should spend more time there.
  4. Do you play other games besides WoW? Any console you using besides your PC?
    • Diablo III
  5. What’s your favorite Transmog gear?
    • The Feralheart set
      Feralheart
  6. How many WoW characters in game do you have? Do you equally play them a lot?
    • I have 5 level 90s, 7 80-85 and a ton of lower level characters. I don’t play them all. My favorites are my druid and shaman.
  7. What’s your current achievement score? What’s the most favorite one and why?
    • 16480. The old titles The Immortal, Hand of Adal and Champion of the Naaru because they are now Feats of Strength and I remember all the fun I had getting them.
  8. What was the most memorable experience since you started playing WoW?
    • Joining the guild Ash and getting to know a bunch of awesome people <3
  9. How many total deaths of critters do you currently have? What are your thoughts about these creatures since they can battle now with your own Pet collections too.
    • 24937. I don’t kill those you can battle.
  10. First word comes in mind when you think about WoW and why?
    • Raids, because I used to raid a lot, for years, but not anymore
  11. Warlords of Draenor is coming up soon, it’s the new expansion everyone is talking about, what are your expectations and why?
    • I haven’t actually read that much about it, to be honest. I’m waiting until the beta, and if I don’t get in, then I might not read anything at all, just wait for the release. But I hope the new world PvP zone will be fun as I think it’s time PvP got some love. I’m also looking forward to the new flexible raid system because it might be easier to find a guild to raid with 1-2 times per week where you don’t have to worry about missing raids once in a while because I want to play more casual. I also hope they’ll update the Moonkin Form in Warlords of Draenor.

What’s in a name?

In this week’s shared topic on Blog Azeroth Llani from Pocket Heals asks:

How did you come up with you character names?

My current main’s name is Syrco which is short for Syrcorax which is my alt but old main.

The story about my name starts back in 2007 when I created my first character. I chose faction, race and looks fast, but when I got to name I stopped up cause I had to think. I didn’t know what to write. I wanted a good name, not just some random funny name, I wanted it to sound correct, like the warrior my character should become.

I know I was very interested in astronomy back then. I knew when all the solar eclipses were, passages, name of all planets, moons and other facts. I loved the planet and moon names cause many of them were so good or beautiful names. I don’t know how all of the moons and planets got their names but many are from different history, mythology and literature.

This came in mind when I was trying to think of a name for my character, so I looked up some moon names on google and picked one which looked like a fitting name for a warrior. It was the name of one of Uranus’ moons: Sycorax. But then I thought, I can’t be the only person who have chosen this name, back then I didn’t know Sycorax also was a race in Doctor Who, so I added an R to make it more unique and I thought it both sounded and looked good. Syrcorax.

But in my first guild people found the name a too long and started to call me Syrco or just Syrc. Syrco then became my nick name and what I registered as on different WoW or gaming related forums. I got many friends in WoW who later I spoke to other places too like MSN, email, Facebook etc, so sometimes I changed my nick/note there to Syrco because that was the name they knew me as. I’ve also been to guild meetings where we have called each other by our character names of the same reason.

I still have left to run into someone with the same name, and I’m now glad I added that R cause I have met a person called Sycorax, a priest on my current realm Chromaggus. He was one of the first persons who spoke to me when I transferred. He asked if I had copied his name. Later another person asked if I was a big fan of Doctor Who. People obviously don’t see the difference between Syrcorax and Sycorax.

When I chose this name I didn’t know the original version Sycorax was more than just a moon, it was first later I read it was a race in Doctor Who, an African witch and a character in Shakespeare’s fantasy play “The Tempest”.

I also tried to find out what the origin of the name is, but none really knows. It has been suggested that “cora” could be from latin corvus which means raven, or from Corax of Syracuse, one of the founders of Greek rhetoric. If the last one is correct the R I added fits in cause of Syr(acuse)corax, and I had no idea.

None of my other characters have names from moons, yet, but I try to always come up with unique names that none else has. But I get inspired by the WoW lore, other games or fantasy books and movies, history and astronomy. I have tried name generators but never found any good and unique names there.

Some of my alts’ names are Allerian and Alleriana – after Alleria Windrunner. Tojopolaris – Norwegian Maine Coon cattery, but Tojo is a character in a Lion King comic, and Polaris is another name for the North Star. Pantalaimon – Character in the book and movie His Dark Materials (The Golden Compass).

I’m very happy with my character names and will always try to find good and unique names for new characters in the future, this goes for real life too, or I think it will, you know, pets, children… when, if, in the future, maybe.

Adding a link to a website I’ve been visiting alot when looking for names or just inspiration, promise you will find good names here.
