#wowscreenshotaday Day 6 – This means a lot to me

6

The Whispering Forest and the faerie dragon event was the first thing that popped into my mind when I read what this day’s topic was. This place and event means a lot to me cause when I first discovered it with one of my best guildmates it was so new so none else knew about it and it was so magical and therefore it’s very special to me. The post I wrote about it is also my most popular post so I was very proud of it cause I never thought so many people would like it.

Navispammed in the Whispering Forest

I haven’t been active on live lately, mostly because of the summer holidays and the beta. But I log on occasionally to check the auction house, my mail and see if anything fun is going on. So I was happily surprised when I got a mail which wasn’t  expired auctions, but a mail from none other than Navimie of the Daily Frostwolf.

I had already read some of her Navispam-posts and thought it was a nice and fun way to get to know people a little better and create a memory. But I never thought she’d visit EU as she plays on US servers.

But there it was and it was clearly from her cause she also wrote to me on Twitter. So I decided to spend some more time on live just in case she’d drop by again. It was a boring Tuesday and the day I got the flu so I felt really bad, and just managed to sit in front of the computer for a while, thank you painkillers! But Navimie made the day so much better!

She told me she wanted to take some pictures with me, but Orgrimmar isn’t exactly my favorite place for taking pictures. So I picked her up in Durotar and she told me about the first post she read on my blog, which was the post about the Whispering Forest, my most popular post and the only post I’m really proud of, and I was so happy to know that she liked it and it made her read my blog. Then we decided to visit the Whispering Forest cause even if the event isn’t up it’s still a beautiful place with the trees, mushrooms and maybe a few faerie dragons.

We took the zeppelin to Tirisfal Glades and flew to the Whispering Forest. Seven dragons were up which means the event will start next, but it seems like it can take up to several hours before it starts, but we didn’t know how long they had been up when we arrived. I think we sat on the mushrooms and talked for about 40 minutes or so. She asked me about my blog, how it’s living in Norway and told me more about the navispam.

I never thought it’d happen when we were there, we could never be lucky enough, but then, as we sat there talking it suddenly happened, the event started! The seven farie dragons flew towards the ring and started channeling the beams and singing. I didn’t expect it at all cause I had almost forgotten where we were, so I was almost as surprised and amazed as the first time I saw it. It’s so wonderful and beautiful, and I absolutely love the music! I just wish I knew why they placed such a unique event in a place where people almost never would happen to be without knowing about it, cause it was merely a coincidence that I discovered it in the first place.

I think Navimie was as amazed by it as I was, cause she had only seen it once or twice before. It was a perfect ending to our meeting, and I think we got some great pictures out of it. I’m so happy Navimie decided to visit me on Kazzak, cause I’ve been reading her blog for a while and I’m a big fan of hers, so I feel honored.

I’ve been reading WoW blogs for some years now and my blog actually turned 2 years in July, which I forgot! Sometimes I wish I could get to know the other bloggers a little better cause they are such good writers and I like them even though I don’t really know any of them that well. So as others have said before, thank you Navimie for bringing us all a little closer together!

Here is her post about it.

By the way, I don’t usually play with my own name above my head, it was for the screenshots :P

Through Your Interface – Day 12: Inspiring Imagery

Inspiring Imagery
Show us something that inspires you within World of Warcraft. This can be a character, a person, scenery that leaves you in aw, or whatever it is that strikes a chord in you to roll a certain class? Does a certain zone make you long to write a story about your character adventuring through that particular area?

Without doubt – The Whispering Forest. Since I discovered it last July it has been my favorite place and the event with the most beautiful music in the game. I haven’t seen the event since I went back there to fraps the second video but I have been there and just checked, but unlucky. I don’t have time to sit and wait for it anymore, but I might do it when I get time cause I would love to see it again. I want to wait for it to happen and then summon all my friends and guildies to see it, but I doubt they are as interested and excited about it as I am. I wish they were cause they’re missing something beautiful.

You can read my post about the Whispering Forest and see the videos here.

Through Your Interface – Day 7: Best Screenshot of the Year

Best Sceenshot of the Year
Show us the best screen shot you believe that you have ever taken and why you think it is the best (content, meaning, how you framed it, etc).
I just can’t look through all of my screenshots cause there are just too many of them, but I found some good screenshots taken within the last year. The first two are from the Cataclysm beta when I flew around almost spam pressing my print screen button, the other two are just a few months old. It’s really hard to choose one which I think is the best, cause I like them all, so maybe you can help and tell me which one you think is the best of these four?

This is a red dragon in the Vermillion Redoubt in Twilight Highlands. I like the way the dragon sits there, he/she looks so proud, and I like how the red colors of the dragon and the tree balance the screenshots.

As you can see this is Stormwind seen from the farms behind the city with the water as foreground. The screenshot might be a little heavy on the left cause of the tree. But I really like the new water effect reflecting the city.

This is taken from inside the Greymane Manor in the Gilneas zone. I wasn’t sure how to catch the light coming from the window, this might not be a very good screenshot after all, but there is still something I like about it.
A
This is of course from the Faerie Circle event in the Whispering Forest. I love this place and event, and that might be why I also love this screenshot. But I think it’s also a good screenshot cause it catches the event in a good way, the faerie dragon’s song around the circle of mushrooms, the yellow beams and green effects, the trees around and starry sky frames it and you can even see the mist floating over the circle.

World of Warcraft Secrets: The Whispering Forest

The Whispering Forest is a subzone west in Tirisfal Glades. Pre Cataclysm it was just an empty unfinished area. Now it’s a forest with many secrets. There is a big lake with a crashed airplane on the bottom, beside the plane is a gnome-like skeleton. A chest with a skull on can also be found in the lake. On a small island in the lake there is a skeleton with a sword in the back and a fishing pole in the hand. There is also a chair with an umbrella and box of fishing tools. Many rats can be found in the zone and there are stags and fawns in the forrest, the small ones which look plagued or infected by something. I wonder why. The most mysterious thing is a ring of glowing mushrooms in the forest which I will tell you more about.

I have actually been there several times but not much happened there so I left, then I had no idea about this amazing event which happens every 6 hours or so.

It was a coincidence that Zampano and I went there late one night and we had read something about dragons spawning but had no idea what they would do, or do anything at all. When we arrived there were a few Fey-Drunk Darters there and more spawned. We sat there a while and just looked at them, when they suddenly flew towards the ring of mushrooms and started channeling these golden beams towards a portal in the center called Faerie Circle. The music changed and notes appeared over their heads like they were singing, this beautiful and mysterious and magical song. Never heard anything like it before. The deers in the forest gathered around to watch. It lasted for about 2-3 minutes, then they despawned.

I felt stunned and amazed by this event. Why would such a beautiful event take place here, where people never are, or it’s not like you have a reason to go there if you don’t know about it. Maybe it’s for a later patch or something? I hope so, so people get to see it, but still I kinda want it to be a secret. Cause I love these hidden, secret places people usually miss as they rush through quests and other things. I like to have more time and explore everything, every little corner of the map. But I still think there has to be more, or would they really do that much for a 3 min event in a place like that?

If you wanna experience this event you just need to have time to camp the place, wait and be patient. I’ve no idea about their spawn times, they might change or even be random. But some people have said every 6 hours but it doesn’t seem to be 100% correct. It takes about 40 minutes from the first dragon spawns till they all seven have spawned, and then about 10 to 40 minutes more before the even actually starts. First time we saw them was at night, when it was dark and the moon was shining, but the video I frapsed in the afternoon so sun was still up. Have to say it was most magical during the night.

This wonderful piece of music is made by Derek Duke and I wrote him a message on Facebook to thank him for the beautiful music and I got this answer

Thanks for the compliment. I’m so happy people find these little ‘secrets’ in WoW. Like the real world, there are so many hidden treasures if we keep our eyes open.

There is a script you can write ingame to play the song, you might have to copy it and then retype the ” signs for it to work.
/script PlaySoundFile(“Sound\\Music\\Cataclysm\\MUS_41_faeriedragon_UE01.mp3″)
