Warlords of Draenor FAQ

I decided to make a FAQ for Warlords of Draenor because I’ve had a few questions about Draenor and how stuff works and I thought some of you might find it useful.

How do I get to Draenor?

If you’ve upgraded your account to Warlords of Draenor, a quest will pop up in your quest log, directing you to the Blasted Lands. You will receive this quest no matter where you are in the world. Speak to Khadgar outside the Dark Portal in Blasted Lands or Khadgar in one of the major cities to head to Draenor.

What are the new dungeons called and when can I queue for them?

Auchindoun (94-97)
Bloodmaul Slag Mines (90-92)

When will I be able to fly in Draenor?

You won’t be able to fly, at least not yet, maybe in a future patch but Blizzard hasn’t promised anything.

What is Ashran?

Ashran is a new world PvP zone in eastern Draenor. It has bases, vehicles and quests. The name also refers to the greater Ashran zone with the Alliance and Horde Capitals, which are set outside of the PvP zone itself. The PvP zone has a cap of roughly 100 players per side. You will be invited to join the battle when you enter the zone or placed in a queue to join if the zone is already at the cap for your faction. You can fly to Ashran from your garrison.

What are the new Draenor capitals called and how do I get there?

The new capitals are in Ashran, a zone located east in Draenor. Stormshield is the Alliance capital and Warspear is the Horde capital. You can fly there from your garrison in Frostfire Ridge after building your garrison. There are portals to the different cities in Azeroth in Stormshield/Warspear. I recommend setting Hearthstone in Warspear/Stormshield as you can use your Garrison Hearthstone to get to your garrison or other parts of Draenor. You can also fly from Stormshield/Warspear to other parts of Draenor.

Is there a portal to Draenor from Orgrimmar/Stormwind?

Yes, there is a portal from Orgrimmar to Frostfire Ridge and from Stormwind to Shadowmoon Valley. You can find the portal by the Cataclysm portals (to Uldum etc)

What are garrisons?

Garrisons are a new major feature in Warlords of Draenor. You can construct buildings to boost your professions or craft items without a profession, recruit followers and send them on missions for rewards.

What is required to queue for a Warlords of Draenor heroic dungeon?

You need a Silver Proving Grounds medal to your role to queue using the Looking For Group tool and 610 item level.

How do I get to Proving Grounds in Draenor?

At level 100, you can pick up the quest Proving Grounds (Alliance) / Proving Grounds (Horde) in your Garrison. Speak to Warmaster Zog (Horde) and Lieutenant Thorn (Alliance) to queue for Proving Grounds.

How does the free level 90 character boost work?

A free character boost is included when you buy the Warlords of Draenor expansion. You can boost one character on your account to level 90.

If the character is at least level 60 before the boost, their primary professions and first aid will be leveled up to 600. If the character is at least level 60 and doesn’t have any primary professions, they’ll automatically be given two primary professions based on your class. Cloth armor classes will get enchanting and tailoring, leather/mail classes will get leatherworking and skinning, plate armor classes will get blacksmithing and mining.

Read more about 90 boost here and here

What will my boosted 90 character get?

The boosted character will receive a set of gear with 483 item level, bags and some gold to get started. Any gear the character already had will be mailed to them. After completing the introductory questline, your character will receive all riding skills up to Artisan (280% flying speed) and all regional riding skills up to Pandaria (Cold Weather Flying, Flight Master’s License etc)

How will I know how to play the level 90 character?

You will start off with the most essential skills for your class and spec and you will unlock more skills as you progress through the introductory questline.

What kinds of bonuses will I earn from level 90 to 100?

You will get perks which are passive abilities improving existing abilities. Each spec has access to 4 perks granted upon reaching levels 92, 94, 96 and 98. These perks don’t have a fixed level at which they are acquired, instead a perk will be randomly selected from those not yet known.

Let me know if there is anything else you think I should add or if anything is incorrect. Will also add more as I progress through Draenor.

Balance druid gear list – MoP

Updated list here

So I got inspired by Saz who made a list of enhancement shaman gear and decided to spend some time in the beta and then create my own list of balance druid gear.

This is a list of pre-raid gear for level 90 balance druids but it might also work well for restoration druids and mistweaver monks as they use the same gear.

It’s still work in progress, so I will update it if anything changes or if there is more to add.

First days of Cataclysm

This week’s Shared Topic on Blog of Azeroth is from Jaedia of Jaedia’s Menagerie.

What are your initial thoughts about the Cataclysm expansion?

As I already leveled to 85 on the beta and explored almost everything there nothing was completely new to me, some might say I ruined the excitement but I don’t agree, I was as excited as anyone else to see everything live, explore it with my friends and guild, see and hear their reactions.

Cataclysm was released night to Tuesday here in Europe, most of the guild bought the download from Battle.net but I wanted a Collector’s Edition so I had ordered one but had to go pick it up at the midnight opening. So I went out around 10 pm and got to the place, not many was there and they weren’t supposed to give them out before midnight, but they did, so I got mine, happily I went back home early enough to relax, eat and install before midnight.

At midnight we all sat on vent talking and installing the game, but we couldn’t get online because the login servers were too busy, of course. Took like 30 min or more before I got into the game and could turn in the dailies I did earlier, when I did that I got half a level, but people who had gotten online early was already close to 81.

We had already planned to do dungeon runs all the way up to 85 with the same group, and we did that for about 5 hours but people got tired and I went questing on my own in Mount Hyjal. I did level in Mount Hyjal in when Cataclysm was in alpha but it was so different then and full of bugs, so I enjoyed leveling there now. It’s so beautiful and the music is perfect, especially love the Nightsong.

Later I went to Vashj’ir, Uldum and Twilight Highlands and did all the start quests to get the portals from Orgrimmar. Vashj’ir has to be one of my favorite zones cause it’s something totally new and different, it’s underwater, you get a seahorse mount, you have to be careful so the Whale Shark doesn’t eat you and I love the colors there and the Vashj’ir theme is amazing!

It’s so hard to choose what my favorite quests so far is, maybe the quests that takes you from Orgrimmar to Twilight Highlands to meet and get the Dragonmaw to join the Horde or the Harrison Jones quests in Uldum or the quests about restoring the World Pillar in Deepholm. I love how they have made those quests, how they tell the lore and the short cinematics.

Went back to doing dungeons again, Blackrock Caverns, Throne of the Tides and Vortex Pinnacle. Finally we get the quests at the entrance in most of the dungeons so we don’t have to run around the whole world to pick them up or do a long quest chain first, plus you get an introduction to what’s going on inside there. So we did all the other dungeons as well for the quests and extra experience. My favorite dungeons are Halls of Origination and Grim Batol cause they have many harder and fun bosses with new game mechanics and I love the design of the dungeons.

Wednesday around noon I dinged 85 around 36 hours after release, and I had a few breaks to sleep and eat. I didn’t rush it but took my time, enjoyed the game, but I’m looking forward to finish all quests I missed in the new zones.

Here are some of the many screenshots I’ve taken this week.
