Timeless Isle on a PvP server

This week’s shared topic on Blog Azeroth comes from Amerence who asks:

Let’s talk about “Time” in Timeless Isle? How much play time do you really spend time hanging out in this Island? What are the benefits despite those elite mobs ganking at you or if you’re in PvP server for any faction tries to kill you? Or just Rare hunting? Is it really fun? Do you finish all the dailies by yourself or in a group? Please share your thoughts! Thanks!

I used to like Timeless Isle when it was new. I went there on my druid and shaman to explore, do the quests, kill rare mobs and do some achievements. I even did the bosses every week. But this was back when it was new and everyone were busy exploring. Now, months later, most people have already completed everything. At least on my realms, Tarren Mill and Kazzak EU. Except for me, I thought I’d wait until I had more time to play and till everyone else were done with it so there would be fewer people around. Bad idea.

I’m not sure how many times I’ve gone back to Timeless Isle to do quests, achievements, pet battles, rare mobs or the weekly bosses, only to be instantly attacked by fellow Horde players pretending to be Alliance. Yes, that’s what I call it. Both my realms are PvP realms and we rarely see any Alliance around except for in cross realm zones of course. But that’s what I liked about the realms, the majority of players being Horde and you don’t have to worry about being attacked while playing.

Sadly, that’s impossible on Timeless Isle. I get attacked almost every time I go there, and not by Alliance but members of my own faction playing around with that ridiculous item Censer of Eternal Agony. I know, they just want to collect Bloody Coins to buy the mount. Yeah, that’s what I thought at first too and it was ok to be killed once in a while. Until I learned that many players create groups or even raids, use that item and run around killing other players just to annoy them and make them angry. They don’t care if you already got the debuff because you’ve already been killed and killing you again won’t give them any Bloody Coins, they’ll still kill you over and over again till you log off. It doesn’t even help to ask them to stop so you can complete your quest, kill the boss or whatever you’re doing. They’ll just laugh at you, tell you to cry more or throw some very rude words at you.

I’ve given up on going to Timeless Isle on my newly dinged and badly geared characters after being killed over and over again while trying to kill a rare mob. It’s so annoying because they don’t care what gear you got or that you don’t have any chance at all. And some of them actually wait for rares to spawn and then they go to that place just because they know there will be other players there which they can kill. I’ve also been invited to other realms after looking for a group to Ordos and Celestials in the group finder, only to be transported to the other realm and instantly killed by a raid of players.

It’s not that I dislike PvP because I actually play a lot of PvP, but I like to choose if I want to PvP or not and I want to actually have a chance to do something, which you usually don’t get at Timeless Isle. Not even on my druid and shaman which both have pretty good PvP gear, I don’t have a chance because they’re usually a group. It doesn’t even count as PvP, more like RvP, Raid vs Player. I think it would be more ok if it was Alliance that killed me, because then I would understand it and it would be natural. I don’t think a faction should be able to kill members of their own faction. I know, by using that item they become an emissary of Ordos, I don’t care, it’s the stupidest thing Blizzard has ever come up with. And I hope they never create anything like it again.

I know I’m not the only one being annoyed by this because I’ve seen people raging in general chat and on forums. Even a GM told me how much he hated it, so he moved all his characters to a PvE realm. Sadly, I can’t afford that and I would like to stay on my current realm because of my friends there and a guild I’m planning to join. I think I would play on a PvE realm if I could start over again and choose, but I remember how much I liked playing on a PvP realm back in the Burning Crusade when we arranged raids to Alliance cities or even met other raids of Alliance in a zone to PvP, that was great.

I don’t know if I’ll ever go back and complete Timeless Isle, maybe some time in the future when people are busy in Draenor. I still try to do Celestials every week because I want PvP items on some of my characters, but I dread going to the isle. I usually fly there or use the teleport if I got it, look for a group on the way, run straight for the boss, kill it and the Hearthstone as fast as I can. I’ve watched my boyfriend play on the Timeless Isle several times per week to complete the quests, kill the bosses and sometimes rare mobs. He told me he gets attacked by other Horde players almost every time he’s there and they usually kill him because they are 2 or more.

Timeless Isle would have been a great place if it wasn’t for that item and players being able to kill their own faction over and over again. I hope Blizzard never makes that possible again.

Have you experienced anything like this on Timeless Isle?

  1. Never really thought about this before but can feel your pain. As a solution have you got a Real Id friend on a PVE server? Get them to invite you to a group and it will drag you to thier server. they can safely log off that character and you can safely do what you want on the isle.

      • You might be initially flagged when you get invited to the pve realm but after 5 mins that will drop off. From there noone can attack you unless you flag yourself, attack a pvp target or heal / buff someone who is already flagged. Enjoy.

  2. Aiyiyi. I’ve been glad to be on a PvE server for the Timeless Isle due to normal Alliance-vs-Horde reasons — I hadn’t even considered the Censer of Eternal Agony — other than to know that I don’t want it ever at all, even for the achievement — but your story makes me even more glad to not be on a PvP realm.
If I played EU, I would gladly be the battletag friend on a PvE server who could help you out, as Berdache suggests :/

  3. I feel your pain. My main’s also on a pvp server and when I get ganked it is almost always Horde doing it. It bothers me to have members of my own faction ganking me. It would bother me a bit less if they’d just do it the once for the coins but even just tonight I had an orc death knight I’d just buffed in passing censer up and come over with a mage friend to kill me not once, but twice in a row (while I was fighting an elite.) For some reason I have the (probably incorrect) suspicion that alliance people in general probably behave better to people of their own faction even if they have access to the item.
